Maverick Unite for Minds virtual event
13th - 28th February 2021
A round up of the event…
With COVID-19 restrictions still very much in force here in the UK, it has meant that here at Maverick Race it hasn’t been business as usual. We haven’t been able to hold our normal trail running events and therefore have had to get creative in order to keep our Maverick running community-engaged, motivated, and inspired.
During this difficult time for so many people, we also felt that it was an opportunity to support the community outside our running bubble. This is why we selected the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) as a charity we’d like to fundraise for.
We decided to launch the Unite for Minds virtual event with the aim of getting as many members of our running community involved and raise as much money for CALM as possible. With no ‘minimum’ distance to achieve individually it really meant that everyone could take part.
The initial goal of the virtual event was to run once around the world clocking a collective total of 40,000km. To our surprise we smashed past this goal in the first 6 days! Within another 6 days we completed the second lap and after the full 15 days we surpassed the outrageous distance of 100,000km.
The Unite for Minds virtual event is an incredible example of what a community can achieve when we all pull together without ego. Whether an individual ran 3km or 300km over the 15 days it simply didn’t matter as long as you did what you could and logged it towards the collective total. Friends, families, colleagues all came together to play a part in reaching an incredible final distance and of course raising vital funds for CALM. It’s been an incredible couple of weeks for the Maverick community.
In total 105,353.36km was covered which is the same as...
- 2.7 times around the world.
- 6 times along the Nile.
- 105 times along the South West coastal path.
In total £6489 was raised which is enough to...
- answer 811 potentially life saving calls.
- provide support materials to 240 families who have lost someone form suicide.
- train 15 new professional helpline workers to speak to people in.
We want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part somehow. No matter how big or small you might think your contribution was we can assure you that it has made an ENORMOUS difference to the morale of our Maverick community and will make a MASSIVE difference to CALM. The Team at Maverick Race
