The Atlas Mountains have always been a place where we have wanted to run, and so we are thrilled to launch a 6-day camp with Sam from Hill Adventures.
Steeped in history and culture, Morocco offers a whole new experience, and we can’t wait to show you why we’re so excited to explore this with you.
The journey that we are taking, ventures into the mountains where North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal, can be found. At 4167m into the heavens, the views are spectacular, which is more than a reward for your efforts in scaling it. This quasi-mythical mountain is the most eulogised peak in the country and it well-deserves the praise heaped upon it. In summer it is an adventure that most reasonably fit people can tackle in two or three days from Imlil.
The mountainous terrain offers a different experience to the more popular alpine destinations, as you wind your way through ancient Berber settlements, whilst soaking up the insane views to Mt Toubkal. This will be an experience you will not forget.
Throughout the camp, you will be coached by Sam and the mountain guides, and at the base, Sam will also offer you tips including strength and conditioning exercises to help you develop, recover, and relax ready for the next part of the adventure.
You will also receive support from our superb event partners who will be providing you with extra treats. Precision Fuel & Hydration will offer you a personalised hydration plan, followed up with all the hydration you’ll need for the mountains. All runners will also receive a goodie bag on arrival with Maverick Apparel, Precision Fuel & Hydration and more goodies from our other partners.
You don't have to be a well-seasoned ultra runner for this camp. Just be comfortable running on trails and being out on your feet for the day. We will choose appropriate routes, and always give you options.
Only 20 spaces are available. Secure your place now for only a £375 deposit, with the balance due 12 weeks prior to travelling.
If you decide to withdraw all payments are non-refundable or transferable.
A 6-month payment plan is available.
The 6-day camp will take us around The Toubkal Circuit Trek allowing us to explore the many shades of the Atlas Mountains; from the beautiful panoramas to exploring the Berber villages and culture. From the moment you arrive, you will be immersed in everyday Berber life, watching the locals working in their terraced fields and tending to their animals.
What is included:
1: Airport transfers and full board accommodation
2: Bespoke hydration plan from PH
3: Camp goodie bag
4: Images from your trip
Please note the camp does not include flights or additional drinks.
Please book your flights to arrive in Marrakech before 11am on Thursday 20th October. You will meet your guide for the trip outside the airport and we will transfer to the mountain town of Imlil, a scenic 2 hour drive away. The drive in itself is the first adventure of the trip and looking out of the window we will see the dusty streets of Marrakech slowly turn into the rugged mountains of the High Atlas. Imlil is a small, traditional mountain town with basic amenities and is nestled right in the heart of the mountains.
We will spend the rest of the afternoon getting settled in, making sure everyone is prepared for the days ahead and sampling some of the great local food on offer. We will have time to explore Imlil and even go for a short shake out run.
Let the running begin! Remember, Imlil sits at 1,800m above sea level so we will take it slow. The first few days are all about getting acclimatised and letting our bodies adapt to the environment. When we say running, think more “the ultra shuffle”!
Today's journey will take us up an impressive deep valley to the high mountain refuge of Azib n Tamsoult (https://www.refugetamsoult.com/en/refuge/1). The refuge stands at 2550m above sea level, so is the perfect height to continue our ongoing acclimatisation ready for the summit of Toubkal in a few days time. There will be plenty of stops along the way for local mint tea and refreshments. In terms of distance, each day is quite short, but don’t underestimate the climbs and the altitude. We have planned this trip to make sure everyone is safe and has the best chance of reaching our summit goal.
Today we will get our first proper look at Toubkal! From the mountain refuge we will climb up to a col at 3550m. This high point will be a good test of how we are getting used to the altitude. We will get amazing views of the High Atlas Mountains all around us before we traverse down to the Mouflon Refuge in the valley below. This will be our base for the next two nights.
We have added an extra day into the program to allow for extra acclimatisation. Today you have a choice: It is entirely possible that the effects of altitude are taking their toll so we might recommend a rest day with a short walk in the valley. If you are feeling fit and well acclimatised then we will go and explore and head up towards the col at the head of the valley at 3800m with the option of heading to a 4000m summit if people are feeling good and conditions allow.
Summit Day! Today is a big day so we will have an early start and set out in the dark for the summit. It is a 1000m climb up to top, and the route is fairly direct and steep. The route is rocky and in places technical, but you will be well prepared from the previous days spent in the mountains. After a couple of hours hiking we will reach the summit ridge and will get a view to the other side of the mountain, from here it’s about an hour to the top.
There are a couple of different options for descent and even the option of climbing another peak if the team is feeling strong. We will end up back at the Mouflon Refuge to collect our kit, pack up and eat some food before enjoying the gentle run back down to Imlil. Even after the rigours of the past few days it’s hard not to enjoy this flowing trail. This is the main tourist route into the mountains so there are plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments and buy souvenirs along the way.
Once down in Imlil we will transfer directly to our Riad in Marrakech and enjoy a celebratory evening in the amazing city.
Departure day. Today you can relax and enjoy the city: explore the souks, visit the hamman and squeeze in one final tagine. We will be on hand to make sure your last experiences of Morocco are great ones. It is up to you when you choose to fly home and we will make sure that you get to the airport safe and on time.

Camp Endeavour Morocco has been designed to challenge you therefore we do require you to have a competent level of fitness - this is for your enjoyment and the safety of others in the group. We want you to have a fantastic experience and in no way is this camp aimed at elite runners - it’s all about you. We want it to be fun - a trip that will leave you thinking about the mountains long after you return home.
Maverick Race has teamed up with coach and mountain guide leader Sam Hill from Hill Adventures, an exceptional coach and runner. Sam organises his own run camps in the UK and also across the borders into Europe and beyond.
We recommend you get the 6:40 am flight from Stanstead (STN) to Marrakech Airport (RAK), which will arrive at 10:15 am. This flight is provided by Ryanair.
We will meet at Marrakech airport at 11am on Thursday 20th October and transfer via arranged transport to Imlil, a 2hr drive. Regular direct flights leave the UK from major airports. London and Manchester are often the best options. We will return to Marrakech on the 24th October and spend the night in the city. We recommend you book flights on the 25th October in the afternoon to give you further time to spend in the city. There will be one transfer to the airport on the 25th October covered in the cost. If you book early it is normal to find return flights for less than £150. All travel in-country is covered in the cost.
Accommodation will be in simple local hotels, mountain lodges and riads. This is all covered in the cost.
In an effort to keep our trails clean and preserve the nature around us, we’re aiming to keep out outposts cup free. Please bring a cup or bottle to re-fill.Get a Maverick Speedcup
