Kent, Surrey and Sussex
Run Leaders for the Maverick Run Project are the people who make our social runs possible. They know their local area better than we do so they go out and find routes that they think you'll enjoy. Below is the information about the Run Leader for this particular social run.
I’m a little, no a lot running obsessed! I think I have always been a runner but paused for partying and travel. I re-discovered this passion after becoming a father and wanting to get fit and a bit healthier. As I started back on my running journey, a local friend introduced me to running in the woods where I live on the Southeast London/Kent borders. This soon became my passion as I moved on pretty quickly from half marathons to marathons and then ultras.
My first ever trail race was a Maverick Race in Kent back in 2017 and I haven’t looked back! This sport has led me to meet some amazing people and create lifelong friendships that I am forever grateful for. People who have seen me at my lowest and my highest.
By day I am a father, husband, live streaming producer and a qualified run coach. I don’t take myself too seriously though as anyone that’s run with me will know.
I love races (from 22km to 100 miles) as they allow you to explore places you might not otherwise see but I also love adventures. This is what running brings to me and it is brilliant to share with other people as well.
I hope you will join me on an adventure. I love a good natter about pretty much anything and as long as you bring sweets!
Jon's runs are based around Kent, Surrey and Sussex. They will be anything from 20-40km always on a Saturday and once a month.
The Oxted route is roughly 40k and consists mostly of trails with a few little road sections, taking runners onto the North Downs Way. Then we head over towards Chartwell passing the ruins of a tower, up Toys Hill, before heading down into Westerham. We then cross back over to the NDW, which we will follow all the way into Otford, where a pub awaits! Or you can just head to the station (trains back into central London)
The route could be quite muddy depending on recent rainfall. Bring a change of top and warm layers as required.
There are no free taps on route BUT there is a shop in Westerham, approx 26km into the route.
The Shoreham run is a lovely local route of about 25k, with some steep climbs. It is mostly wooded trails with a few little road sections and some nice views from Kemsing Downs across the Darent Valley.
Trails could be muddy in winter. Bring a change of top and warm layers as required. No water on route but the possibility of a pub at the end!
If I drive then you can leave bags in my car. Car parking is free at the station. Trains from Central London every 30mins.
