Run Leaders for the Maverick Run Project are the people who make our social runs possible. They know their local area better than we do so they go out and find routes that they think you'll enjoy. Below is the information about the Run Leader for this particular social run.
I’m a trail runner based in Wiltshire, just off the ridgeway. I came to trail running, through a desire to get fit again after letting my fitness drop. I tried road running, but found the motivation hard, So I found the Runner’s world trailblazer advert in a magazine and it wasn’t far away so I tried it, and the rest as they say is history.
Running for me is a reset a chance to clear my head, enjoy the surroundings and on the best occasions do it with company. I was lucky enough to be living in Dorset for many years and running the Jurassic coast, where I heard about the Maverick guys. Their races quickly became my favourite, always well organised, the atmosphere and inclusiveness was amazing from the start and I have never been to a Maverick event and not felt part of the great community.
When they launched the Maverick run project I joined immediately, Because Their philosophy matches mine, and to have the opportunity to experience their community outside of the race schedule was a no brainer. I want as many people as possible to experience trail running, have a chance to escape, enjoy the world we are lucky enough to be surrounded by and hopefully make new friends.
I see the opportunity to be a run leader as a chance to build the community, make trail running inclusive to all, without the need to worry about being too slow, too old or any of the other concerns that races and even run clubs can sometimes bring. The runs are about starting together, ending together and enjoying testing ourselves in beautiful places.
Leon currently hosts a run on Wednesdays and Sundays with routes of varying distances. Routes are subject to change on the day depending on weather and trail conditions.
