Run Leaders for the Maverick Run Project are the people who make our social runs possible. They know their local area better than we do so they go out and find routes that they think you'll enjoy. Below is the information about the Run Leader for this particular social run.
I'm a 32-year-old ex RAF helicopter pilot, now working in government IT. I have a new found love for running since a back injury put an end to a very amateur rugby career.
I'm also the Chairman of the Marlow Striders running club since 2019, but a recent relocation sees me searching for a new way to give back to the running community.
Currently training for the Testway 50-mile Ultra on 3rd April 2021 and booked in for the 23km cross race at Chamonix Mountain running festival, in June - Covid travel dependent, of course. I'm looking forward to leading mixed ability groups on the Hampshire trails to the north of Winchester.
Come and join us as we explore an old RAF airfield including active satellites and test way river routes to really get close to nature without the fear of too much elevation!
Woodland adventure awaits as we weave our way through local trails and sheltered routes amongst the evergreen forest.
Town and trail long run, we start off from the park and ride and head out through two beautiful golf courses before climbing up to the heights to the west of Winchester. Back through the city with views of the Castle and Cathedral before a short riverside run and an option finish to the top of St Catherines Hill for views out across the south of Winchester.
A challenging hills session designed for all paces and abilities, the finish will be the well known Beacon Hill - run/jog/walk depending on how you feel - the plan is we all make it to the iron age fort for a sunset photo and views across the county.
Explore the Worthys as we move from Kings Worthy to Worthy Down and many more in between - a slightly longer route for a Wed night but plenty of wide-open trails for some great group running and chit chat.
This route starts from the picturesque village of Sutton Scotney and explores the droves which link all of the villages in the area, from Barton Stacey to Stoke Charity we will weave our way around farmers fields, thatch cottages and the nearby military ranges.
Starting and finishing with the well-known trails of the test way, this longer route will take us up to the peak of Stockbridge at a little over 500ft elevation and then back down through local golf courses and villages - finishing in the picturesque town of Stockbridge.
