Bagshot, Surrey
Run Leaders for the Maverick Run Project are the people who make our social runs possible. They know their local area better than we do so they go out and find routes that they think you'll enjoy. Below is the information about the Run Leader for this particular social run.
Hello, I am Andrew and live in Bagshot, Surrey.
I started running after finishing university in an attempt to balance my love of food and since then I have had a love/hate relationship with running. What I’ve come to realise over the years is that I love running so much more when running with other people.
I know I am at my best when I’m exercising and know the positive impact this has on my mental health. Over the past few years, I have had a focus on training for the Alpe d’Huez long triathlon (2.2km swim, 120km bike with 3,200m of ascent and 20km run) which I successfully completed in 2021. I now have started to believe in myself again and can do anything I put my mind to.
I am really fortunate to have Swinley Forest and Lightwater Country Park (High Curley) on my doorstep and the closer I get to run to nature the happier I feel. I’m not the fastest of runners but thoroughly enjoy being out especially with friends. I usually run off-road with at least one of our dogs. Bo is generally just a blur on our runs and Willow (her elder sister) is far more considered about where she spends her energy.
I did my first Maverick run in May 2021 and loved the race, the people and the atmosphere. I’m looking forward to creating an inclusive fun running group to explore our local area and share some adventures.
Andrew runs in Surrey with the main starting point being in Bagshot. The group make the most of Swinley Forest, Barossa Common and Lightwater Country Park with the routes varying between 8 and 10km. The routes will be added to over time and shorter/taster routes will be added soon.
The routes will be trail runs with a mix of fire tracks and single tracks and there will be hills for us to enjoy. No one is ever left behind.
On the majority of the routes, there will be places where you can cut sections off, should the need arise.
Wear trail shoes, bring a head torch when it’s going to be dark and always bring a sense of adventure and your sense of humour.
