Run Leaders for the Maverick Run Project are the people who make our social runs possible. They know their local area better than we do so they go out and find routes that they think you'll enjoy. Below is the information about the Run Leader for this particular social run.
Before I discovered trails, running to me was just something you did to keep fit, plodding about on the pavement and just getting it done. Then a few years ago an old friend messaged me to say there's this event called Maverick Race taking place just down the road and I should come along - my last organised running event at this point was the cross country at secondary school - but it sounded like a fun day out so I was in. Little did I know I'd signed up for the Exmoor X-Series and had no idea what I'd let myself in for! But 21km and 1000m of climbing later I'd completed my first trail event, pushed myself further than I ever had, discovered an epic Maverick community and was completely hooked!
I've been to a good few Maverick Race events since then and always come away with the same feeling of being incredibly welcomed, whether it be the Mav team, the volunteers or all the like-minded runners I'm surrounded by who are all here because we love the outdoors, beautiful trails, plus getting pretty mucky and muddy of course!
I'm incredibly excited about the Maverick Run Project and the awesome team and community involved. We've got some stunning trails here in North Devon - we're so lucky to have such a variety of terrain, plus one of the best sections of the South West Coast Path (in my opinion) and I'm really looking forward to getting out there with you all!

A route with something for everyone - plus hills and views aplenty! Heading out from Wrafton, a quick climb will warm up the legs before we head out onto the trails proper.
Rolling trails and fields build up to the main climb of the route, which may need a bit of power hiking to complete, but this just leaves more opportunities to enjoy the views. A quick blast down some back lanes before one final climb and a fun descent takes us to the end of the route.
A great introduction to the fun trails in the area!
A perfect route to give you a taste of running off-road, plus run through the UK’s largest sand dune system! While hill climbs will be at a minimum on this route, you’ll still have plenty to challenge you out there.
Setting off from Sandy Lane, we’ll quickly head into the Burrows and hit some rolling terrain with a few short, sharp climbs thrown in there. A gentle looping route will take us around one of the most beautiful parts of North Devon and give you a chance to explore this incredible Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
An awesome route to give yourself a bit of a challenge - be warned your shoes might need the sand emptying out by the end!
Get ready for endless sea views as we head out on a glorious section of the South West Coast Path. A route with plenty of variety - fast singletrack, rocky descents, a couple of leg-burning climbs, plus the Atlantic Ocean by your side the whole time.
Heading out from Croyde, we’ll head straight up to Baggy Point before looping round and cruising along the trail to Putsborough beach. Brace yourself for the big climb at halfway - the views at the top are definitely worth it! Turning around at Woolacombe Down, we’ll head for home on this out and back route so we can take in the sights in reverse.
Bring your best hill climbing legs for this one, you won’t regret coming along for this blast on the coast path.
